Poor broadband speeds in the evening

After suffering from similar change in broadband speed after 5pm (6/7mbs during the day and around 1.5 mbs thereafter) i  have carried out the above mentioned steps and have the following reults:

using the bt speed tester:

however gievn that i couldn't stream content on any of my devices i used the "global standard for internet metrics" and got these results: 

I find it somewhat convenient that using the bt speed tester I cannot complain as this is above the minimum 4.5mbs guaranteed by bt. Howevere, given that this is clearly an error i am unsure as to what my next steps should be. Could you please advise?

Hi Welcome to the community forums

Have you tried the quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should hear no noise if you can hear noise then it needs reporting to BT faults on 151 with no mention of broadband
in the call are you connected to the test socket using a new filter


if using a hub 4 locate these lines located in the hub logs
Lines should look like this
19:11:29, 07 Nov. (2290101.460000) DSL noise margin: 7.00 dB upstream, 6.10 dB downstream
19:11:29, 07 Nov. (2290101.390000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 288 Kbps downstream

if u The stats for the Home Hub 6 can be found on the Information page from http://192.168.1.254 then Advanced Settings -> Technical Log. 


Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results. Make sure you delete your phone number before posting.

Can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down.

This test must be done with a wired connection.

I have tried the quiet line test and there is no noise whatsoever on the line.

I've had trouble locating the exact logs you were asking for, however the most similar ones i could fined were these:

the speedtest.net results are lower because of general internet usage the BT Wholesale test checks the speed within the BT Network before it joins the internet and the teest is used by all providers that use the BT Wholesale network and is the only accepted speedtest for speed issues as the result are saved on the BT Wholesale servers

are you using a wired connection when doing the speed test ??
