Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

I have recently switched over to BT...so far so good...until it came to configuring port forwarding. I tried everything and then contacted BT who had the cheek to say it would be an £80 charge for technical support. WTF?

I have had zero issues with previous routers.

Device: BT Hub 6A

Firmware: SG4B10002244

Firewall: On

1. I have set up DDNS, which seems to be connecting and updating the IP address. So far so good.

2. The device, which is a network camera, has a fixed IP address.

3. I have created two new rules, one to open port 80 and another to open port 7000. Both have different Rule names (no spaces) and point to the fixed IP device.

However, I am not able to connect to my camera.

The config mirrors what I had on previous routers.

Can anyone provide any pointers or does the BT Hub 6A not work with Port Forwarding?

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

I have checked with canyouseeme.org and none of the ports that have been set up to port forward are open.

Error: I could not see your service on x.x.x.x on port (7000)
Reason: Connection timed out

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

Hi @asif2017 and welcome.

Can you take a look at How do I set up port forwarding on my BT Hub? and let me know how you get on?

Cheers

David

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

David

Thanks for replying.

I have followed the instructions as per the knowledge page. Here is the config:

Untitled.png

The ports I am trying to open are 80 and 2000.

I am replicating the config that I have on my previous (sky) router.

I can connect to the camera at home using both ports.

I also have Dynamic DNS set up using NoIP. On NoIP I have assigned a dummy IP address of 1.1.1.1. When the config is refreshed on my BT Hub, the NoIP IP address is updated correctly.

nsLookup resolves to my IP address. The connection then times out.

I have tried resetting the BT Hub to factory default and tried again, same issue.

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

How is the camera getting its IP address? Is it static? If so, have you definitely set its default gateway to correctly be the hub?

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

The camera has a static IP address.

I can connect to the camera at home, on the specified IP address both on port 80 (web interface) and 2000 (android app)

Port scanner software suggests that the ports are not open on the firewall

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

Have you set the camera's default gateway to 192.168.1.254 within its IP configuration? You would still be able to connect to it internally if you hadn't, but port forwarding wouldn't work

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

Just to clarify... the reason I ask is because you mentioned that you just moved to BT. My guess is that your previous ISP's router had an IP of 192.168.1.1 and because your camera has been configured with a static address will not have picked up the new gateway IP of 192.168.1.254.

Re: Port Forwarding BT Hub 6A

Yes. Config updated.

Have decided to hard reset both devices and start again.
