Port forwarding home hub 6

Go to solution

Hi,

I have recently switched over to the home hub 6 and since then my wifi extender has stopped working. I contacted maplin for assitance and they have advised that the home hub 6 has additional security so will need port forwarding activating. I have established how to get through to the port forwarding stage however I am not sure what ports I am supposed to be entering to allow access or what other settings I am supposed to be updating in order to get this working again.

Any assitance that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Rob

Re: Wireless extender not working with home hub 6

Its nothing to do with port forwarding, I have changed the subject line to avoid confusion. Please use the new one.

Reset the extender to factory default.

Try turning Smart Setup off.

You may also need to change the wireless mode on the home hub 6 from mode 1 to mode 2.

It may not be compatible with the HH6, and wireless extenders are usually unreliable.

This is a better option http://www.shop.bt.com/mini-sites/connected-home/home-hotspots

@Robchapman Did you change the wireless password to the new hub's password?

Thanks for the responses,

I've reset the extender back to its default settings without success.

When ringing maplin they advised that it isnt directly compatible with the smart hub and they would need to remote on as port forwardng was required - although they advised the cost of them doing this would be more than getting a new extender so i turned this down.

Ill have a try with turning the smart setup off.

@licquorice - I have tried updating the password however as soon as the extender connects to the router it goes offline and i can no longer connect or see it. The only way to make the extender visible again is to reset it back to defualt.

Wireless extenders are always going to be hit and miss. They also reduce the download speed owing to the fact that they have to receive, then re-transmit the data on the same channel.

Thanks Keith,

im going to have a look at the BT powerline extenders as they look like they may be a better fit for purpose.

They also give you a couple of Ethernet ports at the far end, which are very useful.

The Mini Wi-fi Home Hotspot 600 Kit works very well, but do not use the option to clone the home hub settings, as that gives problems.

The default setting give a new SSID, and you can connect devices to whichever wireless signal is strongest.

I see its on offer at the moment.
