Possible IP address compromised Scam

Go to solution

Just received a phone call on my land line number from an Indian lady stating she was from BT. She went on saying that my IP address had been compromised and was being used by criminals and others. She then went on by saying that had i given or allowed anyone other my family members my internet access, I said no and nor would I. I asked how this could be as my internet is locked on all devices and I still require to input a pass word. She got a little rude and said No and continued with her its my fault and i need to address the IP address issue. I hung up. However the telephone number was 0136044124040 this number is too long as our are 11 digits. I rang it back on my mobile with the prefix so not to show my mobile up  but it said call failed. i rang gain with the last 2 digits taken off again prefixed, and call failed, but when I've rang this on my land line (again pre fixed) it went straight through. i tried it with the longer number and it rang also. However no one picked up as i wanted to check it it was BT but I'm guessing this is a scam.

The scammers scare people to make them concerned, enough people, unfortunately, fall for it to make it worth their time.

I would recommend just hanging up without giving any details.

There is another post about it here: https://community.bt.com/t5/Landline/IP-Address-Compromised/td-p/1933353
