If/when you renew the BT TV then your broadband contract will also renew for the same duration with the same discounts you have now, so they won't be out of sync.
Had the same email today. Contacted BT as I had just re-contracted in March to see what my options were. I went knowing that a 26% increase on my BT TV would be well above inflation so quite in my rights to cancel.
After being transferred twice was put onto a nice gentleman who agreed with my assessment that a 26% increase was not acceptable and stated he could stop the £4 increase. All I had to do was re-contract for 18 months. As overall I am happy with BT service and only 2 months into a 18 month contract was happy to do so. I confirmed that my monthly cost for all my services them would stay the same and will keep exactly the same services Phone line, Mobile, Broadband with complete home and TV. He said no problem you will receive a email in a couple of minutes stating the re-contracting of the BTTV.
Couple of minutes later email received, a minute later a further email stating I had left complete wifi and I needed to return my disks (which I had paid £10 in March to get posted to me and £5 a month rental).
At 1750hrs went back on the phone too BT to see why? At 1930hrs and being passed a couple of times to different departments spoke to a lady who again was very polite and apologetic. She has promised to get back to me on Monday with everything sorted, which I do believe she will do her best to do. For a communications company the art of the communication above the front line people appears to be lost. Wish I just paid the extra £4, that said looking at the offers on line with other companies at £80 a month to BT I am paying nearly double of what I could get elsewhere?
A very disgruntled customer of over 8 years.
BT are price gouging pigs ..
Just rung up about my email, according to the guy I talked to if I recontract the price of my tv and broadband will rise by £5, if I accept the price rise and don’t recontract, I will only see a £4 increase.
Explain that please BT......
I’ll call again tomorrow and see if someone else can assist
The increase is for the BTTV only. From how much you were paying for this service then work out the percentage increase for this service equals (in my case 26%). This is hugely above RPI and inflation so unless BT can prove that they are providing a significant increase in the service, (10 extra games?) then you have a good case for cancelling your contract.
As BTTV is a crucial part of the service you wanted and BT insist on the massive increase you have a good argument with the ombudsman to cancel all your services. Telecom companies have a history of doing things like this and are being looked at?
I don't seem to recall any price increases in the past?
BT TV increased in price in September 2018 along with Sky Sports.

My TV Max package increased £2pm and Sky Sports £3.50
So this will be a second increase within 12 months.

So much for the £3 discount a month I manged to get for my BT TV Max HD package when I renewed all my contracts in mid January.
Although I do watch some channels on BT TV I find at times im watching the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video more.
As BT Sport if I was not still getting the full BT Sports package for free then I would cancel. As Although I do watch sport I don't watch enough sport throughout the year to be paying for it.
