Problem with additional handset for BT6600 Digital Cordless Phone with Answer Phone

I tried to answer a call with an additional handset (BT6600 Digital Cordless Phone with Answer Phone) but couldn't pick up the call. The display just displays "Listening and the number" but I am unable to do anything to make the handset respond. The call has long since ended! I have looked in the manual and online but cannot find a resolution. I am unable to call the Helpdesk until Monday morning. Can anyone help?

Remove the power from the base station, wait about 20 seconds, and then plug it back in.
