Property Problem Or BT Problem?

Hello All,

Happy New Year!

Hoping someone can help with this, we have no dial tone on our landline at all, we thought it might be the phone (it was very old) so we bought a new one but its exactly the same and BT tested the line but found no fault?

Is there anything else we can check before getting BT out?

Thank you,

Welcome to this user forum. BT Retail would pass the fault to Openreach.

What does your master phone socket look like?

They suffer from disconnect problems.

Unclip the front part, and plug your phone into the test socket which is located behind, and see if you get dial tone.

Re: Property Problem Or BT Problem?

Ok thanks will give that a go, will we not then lose the broadband connection though?

Yes we have a BT Landline package

First check the line with just a phone in the test socket. If you do get dial tone, then plug your microfilter into the test socket, and then plug the phone and the BT Home Hub into the microfilter and see if you still get dial tone and broadband.

If you do not get dial tone at the test socket, then you need to report the fault to BT, as no dial tone, unable to make any calls.

Please post back with the results of the test.

Re: Property Problem Or BT Problem?

Hi Keith,

Plugged the phone in to the test socket last night and exactly the same, completely dead, so this needs to be reported to BT?

Yes, you can report it online or by calling 0800 800 151.

https://www.bt.com/help/report-and-track-your-bt-problem

The BT line test cannot detect a disconnection which is close to your house.

It could also be a fault in the exchange.
