Hi, I am in a similar situation, our cat kindly had a wee on the ADSL filter and the resultant corrosion caused us to have a noisy landline and frequent ADSL drop outs. I have replaced all cabling and the faceplate. Signal to noise is now very good as displayed here.
Your uptime is only just over 5hrs, is that due to you restarting the hub?
with your speed down as far as 5mb have you checked for a dial tone on your phone if you can get a dial tone then dial 17070 option 2 should be silent and best with corded phone
Hi, sorry for the delay replying, to be honest I cannot remember what I did, I am still fighting with this. Resorted to using tethering on my mobile phone today as things have got far worse. It is a very simple installation, drop wires into master socket, a filtered faceplate with one cordless phone base station plugged in, other socket has a new RJ11 cable to the router. Speed of the connection has never been great but was adequate, phone is now noiseless which is an improvement, I will persist a bit before resorting to an engineer call-out.
Thank you for the reply, sorry for the delay. The phone works fine now and is great with quiet line test (after the cat gave that micro-filter the treatment it was noisy and the real problems started). I will continue investigating, something is clearly still wrong.
I have an engineer appointment booked for tomorrow (Saturday), the lady at the call centre suggested that the current fault is between the exchange and the cabinet. The chief problem for me is the slow downlink despite the huge 27dB noise margin. I am now pretty confident that there is no fault with the installation here. I will update this page when something changes, thank you to those that have contributed. I will attach tonights stats from the HH5, the circuit has stayed up since the last reboot/reset.
Hi all, engineer visited today, we MAY have a dodgy cable on our cordless phone which could have influenced DLM, not really sure. Engineer has done a DLM reset and now getting a decent speed on the broadband, not an earth shattering speed but 40Mb/s is a vast improvement over the previous somewhat unimpressive 5Mb/s. Thank you to those that have contributed to this post and to the BT staff. I will see how the speed stabilises over the next few days or so, kind regards David
FWIW the speed is still about the post repair speed, the HH5 reports a noise margin of just over 6dB on both uplink and downlink, I did disconnect the HH5 briefly a few days ago to add a ferrite toroid to the rj11 cable as an attempt to get a better noise margin, it helped by about half a dB on the downlink. (I do radio as a living and a hobby and RF interference from Vdsl/Adsl can be an issue for me). Our current broadband speed is useable and I am glad the problem is sorted, I just need to forget that some people in the street are getting about double the speed. Thanks for the assistance on here.
