I'm hoping somebody can help me fix this issue as it's been a massive pain for months now.
I've been getting seemingly random huge ping spikes in my internet, so much so that the speed comes to a crawl.
I test this by going to cmd and 'ping google.com' - normally its around 22ms, however in these phases it's between 500ms-2000ms. Often this issue will just fix itself and go back to normal speeds after a while, otherwise I can reset the router and that normally fixes things.
Another thing I've noticed when running speed tests is that my packet loss is 100% (or 'cannot test packet loss') - I'm guessing this might be related to the lag?
Any help greatly appreciated...
@Tom95m Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum. Can you post a copy of the trace routes when this is affecting you? We might be able to see from the different hops where the delay is happening.
Thankyou for your response!
I wasn't sure what you meant by traceroute, but I've googled it and I think you wanted me to go to cmd and type traceroute - hostname?
I've typed in traceroute google.com, and below are the results. I specifically did this traceroute at a time when I was having a ping spike.
Tracing route to google.com [18.104.22.168]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

13 21 ms 21 ms 20 ms lhr26s01-in-f142.1e100.net [188.8.131.52]
Hope this is the correct information.
Just to add to that, I did a further ping test straight after I posted that - The results were a massive 1934ms,2209ms &2094ms - although it says 4 packets sent & 4 packed received... 0% loss.
Sorry this might be of no use but thought it might be worth adding - I'm not the best when it comes to these things 🙂
are you using wired or wireless?
@Tom95m Sorry about the delay getting back to you I have not been on the forum much due to the holiday period. The first hop is only 1ms so the connection to the hub looks OK, its immediately after that the latency seems to be very high on each hop.
