Do you mean that the lights on the home hub change colour?
Is there any noise on your phone line?

Most faults are caused by high resistance faults, made worse by the fact that there is no electrical path created by the house phone.
Please can you plug in the house phone. Then dial 17070 and select option 1, ringback test.
Then put the phone down, and it will ring. Let it ring for about 20 seconds and then answer it, you will then get the message that the test is complete.
You can then put the phone down, but I would recommend that you leave it plugged in.
The high voltages generated during the ringing, usually breaks down any bad connection.
Another question.
What does your master phone socket look like?
