Configure Home Hub 5 as modem only? - IT WORKS!!!!

Very sorry to resurrect an old thread but it’s the one that is the most relevant....

Quick synopsis, I live out in the sticks, ADSL, and it’s a direct line to the exchange (FWIW). 

I have been using a TP-Link Archer VR2800 modem router with reasonable results, and with a long thin house, I’ve got Cat 5 cabling from one end to the other. I’ve got the BT whole home with the main plugged into the modem / router, one in the middle of the house connected by its own network system and then one at the far end of the house connected to a dumb switch which is connected to the Cat 5.

All well and good except the Archer modem is pretty flaky - it’s had a SNR margin of 2.8-3 (so great download speeds considering) but more often than not, it loses the connection or its just very hard to get any ‘real’ download speed.

However, if I use the BT HH (4), it’s a lot, lot better and much more stable.

Trouble is, I’m running into problems with IP CCTV cameras and (I think) this DHCP table issues.

Therefore, I’d like to use the HH as the modem and the Archer as the router.

Can anyone see major problems with this at all?

Home hubs don't have a modem only mode. You can turn off dhcp but it will still be routing and natting.

Thanks for the reply - by the looks of the original post (separated for whatever reason) you can actually use the HH seemingly as a modem only type setup?

Sounds like I could use the TP-Link as the router?

People seem to think that turning off dhcp and WiFi turns a router into a modem, it doesn't!
You can connect the devices together but if you connect a LAN port on the hub to the WAN port of the tp link, you will be double natting.
