Re: Landline call charges - when we have no landline phone

My elderly BLIND mother has been charged for calls made to a certain number over 100 times.she can't dial a number she presses the pre set button to call me and only me yet this same number is on her bill. I can't get any help by calling BT they keep putting me to different departments then you don't get your call answered.I won't give up though as this is day light robbery from BT.

I hope you get your situation sorted soon.

They're is no crossed line fault according to them but what else can it be..

Hi, welcome to the forums and sorry to hear of this issue.

Is the number called 100 times a typical phone number or something else? E.g. what are the 1st 4 digits of this number.

The number should be edited out as it's probably someone's real number.

How is your number preset, is it on a normal phone etc? It is possible that your mother has inadvertantly dialled the number via another preset? Are the calls to this number very short, and possibly just before calls to your number?

Re: Landline call charges - when we have no landline phone

The phone she uses has a plastic cover over the numbers with 4 large buttons down the side for you to add preset numbers in.I only use the top 2.First button she knows will call me at home and second will call my mobile. The other two buttons have not bee activated.

The calls to this number are very short. As there are much less calls to my number showing on her bill I can't say if its when she's trying to call me..There were a coupe of times it looked like she had called my number and this number at the same time which made me think is there a cross line with my phone.. To me it looks like the only logical answer now..I don't use my home phone and only have it for her to call me really.

Re: Landline call charges - when we have no landline phone

Meant to add,I dialled the number last night from  my mums phone and got an engaged tone like I had got when I called from my mobile.I checked her usage for unmilled calls this morning and theres been a charge!!!  Why would you get charged if the phones engaged!!

Re: Landline call charges - when we have no landline phone

Hi @lubo, welcome to the community and thanks for calling, does your mother have any equipment other than her phone connected to the line like a burglar alarm or lifeline pendant/alarm that may be making these calls?

If the dialled number actually presented the tone, then you would be charged - so it may not have actually been an engaged tone.

Call the number from your mobile and see if it connects and presents a tone.

Re: Landline call charges - when we have no landline phone

Andy I’ve called it from my mobile and it’s just the exact same noise I receive.

i have tracked the number down to a certain street about 2/3 miles from us so how does that figure
