If your BT Premium email account is a BTYahoo email account and you are now on BTMail with your broadband account you will not be able to have it moved onto the BTMail platform but you should be able to have it "associated" to your account which will mean you no longer pay for it.
If your BT Premium email account is on the BTMail platform you will be able to have it linked to your broadband which will mean you can manage it from your MyBT and stop paying for it.
You should contact the Premium Mail team on 0808 100 6778 option 2. Any problems post back.
I would say that you have been given the wrong information. You should have been able to have one of the options I mentioned depending on the email platform you are on.

They are a BT UK based team and if they can help they will reply via this thread asking you to contact them via a link.
