I am having major issues. I need to change my primary BT ID so that it matches the email address that I use to log into my bt
Spoke to BT Call centre who after a long time on the phone said I would receive an activation email in 24 hours. I do not expect this to happen. My old email address is still showing as the primary BT ID

Because it gives the error message "you cannot change to an email address that is already your bt email address"
Normally your BTID is the email address that you log onto MyBT with. What make you think it is not presently set up that way?
Do you have more than one BTID?
If you use this link and the "Is my BTID the primary BTID" link on the right of the page.
The primary ID is my old email address which I had with BT with my previous old account. When I rejoined BT with my present new email address, my primary BT ID for some reason did not update to my new email address - its still showing the old one.
I think the problem is because your old email address and BTID is not associated with your present BT account. They are two separate accounts and the old one would not "update" to the new one.
You will need BT assistance to sort this out.
