Just realised I am in a similar position and have raised a complainmt with BT regarding this.
I believe I have been on unlimited broadband Infinity 2 since the beginning of 2014 and have only ever had upto 33/34 Mbps in all that time ,how can this be correct and surely it is unacceptable for BT to be charging me in that period for a service that I did not have..
Apologies if this should have been begun in a new thread.

Not sure what it all means ?
You are not going to get Infinity 2 speeds. Its possible when you originally started Infinity 2, the speeds were better, but as more customers were added to the cabinet, the speed would drop due to crosstalk. The max you could ever get, under ideal conditions, would be 51Mbs connection speed.
These figure get revised downward by Openreach, as more people are connected.
You may be best to downgrade to Infinity 1, if its any cheaper.
Thanks very much for this info Keith,
I had a feeling this would be the outcome.
As for BT inferring that infinity 2 was attainable when clearly it was not (for me anyway )I think I will be downgrading as it means a drop of about £7 pm which after four years of paying over the odds for something that was never acheivable is a bitter pill to swallow and think I deserve some sort of recompense , (not holding my breath on that ) !!!
