Uploading causes drop

Sorry but these suggestions of workarounds are irritating.

By way of an analogy, I'd be amazed if there was not a major uproar if owners of a premium car (let's say a BMW M3)  were told that on paper and with internal testing, the car can accelerate from 0-60 in say 4 seconds, but if they didn't want the car to fail after 5minutes, that they really need to limit that to just 8 seconds, by either an internal software limiter, or by getting a tow from a third party vehicle.  As a product, it would be simply unfit for purpose.

That's something that potential buyers would certainly want to know about? Plus it would be something I'd imagine BMW would be very keen to solve internally.

Likewise, I'd imagine there IS a solution that BT can find, it's obviously just going to need someone with enough interest to help, and that help will be greatly appreciated by me, and indeed the others who are experiencing the same or similar issues.

Unfortunately the HH6 isn't a premium product, its a cheap and nasty ISP supplied device that has severe limitations.

I'd imagine the reason for trying to choose a separate router would be because it would have the ability to throttle the upload speeds?

Assuming this, then it still does NOT provide a solution to the issue. Just a workaround.

So are you're saying that the SmartHub can't handle this, but a 3rd party router would be able to handle the full 30mbps upload without issue?  If so - then as I am getting nowhere else right now - I'd be interested in hearing what router would handle this, and what settings would need to be made? 

If the idea of using a 3rd party router is simply to upload at a lower speed then (thereby bypassing some trigger)  then this isn't something I'm very interested in right now - at least while I give BT a chance to solve this problem.

Its certainly possible that is the case.  Unfortunately there are probly very few people on the forum that have an FTTP connection and upload huge files to verify. If the third party router handled the throughput, no settings would be involved it would just work. You could always try a router from Amazon and return it if it didn't work as expected, although I'm fairly confident it would. One of the TP-Link Archer range would be suitable, you wouldn't need a VDSL modem/router as you already have a modem in the form of the ONT.

Any news on your investigations?  or is one of the contributors correct and the fancy new latest BT Smart Hub is actually a piece of cr*p [their words not mine] and essentially not fit for purpose  [my words] 😉 

Do I really need a third party router to be able to upload large video files without throttling my upload speeds?  Would be interested in final clarification from BT themselves. 

Please can you post here so others may benefit from the conclusion.

Hi @DumbarSteve the product team are currently conducting testing on the issue you are experiencing. I should have more information on a fix for you next week and will be in touch then.

Fingers crossed they come up with something, no doubt it will be hard for them to publicly admit defeat, as it would mean there genuinely is a huge problem with the Smart Hubs on FTTP and the negative comments above were correct.

I'll keep the faith (for now) 😉

I have just had exactly this issue, I binned the HH6 several months ago and have been using a TP Link Archer VR900 which has given fantastic trouble free performance. I have just rerturned from a trip and had over 6gb of photos to upload to the cloud. It totally destroyed my connection until the upload was finisheed after many hours. I think it's a BT related problem rather than hardware related.
