Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

@SeanD - hi Sean!

I am now totally frustrated and puzzled.

I have tried my iPhone 6s on another Wholehome network which is known to support an iPhone 6s and it did not connect properly, doing exactly as it has done on mine! (The “settings” line shows connected and it has a tick, IP address etc all correct, but the WiFi symbol appears then vanishes at top of screen. Web pages deliver but very slowly, mail will not send.)

Following that I have done a total erase/install of my iPhone - to no avail, I still get exactly the same partial network attachment.

One more try at power off and restart Wholehome, forget network, power off restart iPhone and I am giving up and will probably send the whole thing back.

Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

First off,  Thanks again to the development team for their continued support and development, i didnt update to v1.02.05 build 10  because when i had Legacy turned off on previous version and it was solid as a rock.

I updated to v1.02.06 build 11 because of the OP saying it had a new roll back feature (just in case) but I don't see the roll back feature in the firmware section on pc mentioned in op, i do see Early Adopter although hopefully the roll back will not be needed anyway.

I can't say how stable this version is as ive only just this second updated but i turned the Legacy Steering back on before i updated time will tell. Fingers crossed.

Thanks again BT-WH Team

Hi

Is it possible you have any software on your particular iPhone that may be interfering with the connection (e.g. VPN, Security etc)? If you are able to connect a different iPhone 6S to the same network, it suggests something is misconfigured or installed that is interfering with the connection. If you're able to take a look and see if there is anything obvious different between them, that may help with your issue.

So allegedly we can now turn off 'Legacy Steering', is this the advice with the latest release then?

I do sometimes still puzzle as to why the disk in our lounge (connected by ethernet via homeplug for backhaul) is predominantly the 'Primary' disk and not the one connected directly to the HomeHub in our upstairs office.  They do sometimes change round for the odd day but just as quickly revert back.

It shouldn't make any difference to your network which disc is acting as the primary disc - it is just the designated disc to control data/firmware updates/app etc. It will not impact the rest of the topology.

It may be possible that the Homeplug link is not 100% stable and if so, it will be triggering the master re-election process each time it loses contact with the rest of the discs for more than a few seconds. Are you able to check the stability of the Homeplug devices and if they continue to be a problem, swap to other models or consider using Wi-Fi backhaul?

@Dan-O  I haven't been aware of any issues with the Homeplugs which I have used for a number of years.  However, as you comment, the fact that the connected disk acting as Primary using a HomePlug (via a TP-Link network switch) does on occasions become a 'slave' indicates that at times there may be a brief temporary lost connection.  Whether this is caused by some internal interference e.g. microwave oven etc. I couldn't say.  Of course when this happens the Primary changes to the disk connected directly to the HomeHub.

I've also noted that when this happens all the kit using that disk switches almost instantly to the other disks, so as such I haven't really experienced any issues.

The Primary role usually reverts back to the original disk within a day.

In fact I'm one of those 'lucky users' who basically has had no real problems with WH throughout, even with the previous firmware problems that others have experienced.

Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

@Dan-O.     Thanks for that, your posting triggered me to examine what was different between my iPhone and iPad- VPN was the answer. I have TunnelBear on both, but it only autoconnects on the iPhone (because my iPad is 99% used on my own, trusted, networks).

Turning off auto connect fixed the problem and I have now marked the network as trusted and turned auto connect back on.

This begs the question of why I was not getting some better alert than the WiFi symbol disappearing to tell me the connection was not completing properly (timing issue?) but that is a minor point. Just delighted to have Wholehome working for all devices so I can turn off previous network.

Now getting a steady 180Mbps WiFi speed or close to it all over the house.  Smiley LOL

Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

This seems to be an issue that keeps on running. My set up is a homehub 5, a wholehome disc attached by cable and then two further discs connected by wifi. Unfortunately, I've had no end of issues and an increasingly irate family.

Connected devices include 2 Samsung smart TV's, 2 Apple TV's, one set-top box connected to one of the wifi discs by cable, one printer, one apple homepod, one B&W Zeppelin Air, one iphone XS, two iphone 7's, one iphone 6s, one iphone 6s+, three Mac airbooks and one iMac. And probably some others I've forgotton about

iphone's and iMac's are on most recent software, whole home is on most recent firmware (1.02.06 build 11), homehub firmware is up to date, signal strength for the two wifi discs is -73 & -76.

It seems that devices, seemingly at random, drop a connection. The app shows discs are working but devices do not connect. There does not appear to be any pattern. Issues mainly surround Apple devices. I also see some "DNS outage detected" on a Network logger app.

I'd be grateful for set-up advice. Should I disable wifi on the homehub? Should I disable steering, as suggested elsewhere? Should I switch on compatibilty mode? Should I manually set IP addresses? Anything else? Any help or advice gratefully received

Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

@IanS66  2 suggestions;

1) Yes, turn off the hub's wifi as that could cause conflicts.

2) Rather than the compatibility setting, the next setting to try is "steering". Although that is supposed to work fine now, its not my own experience. To turn it off login to the BTWH with a browser ( http://mybtdevice.home/ ) then go to ( http://mybtdevice.home/steering.htm ) and change "all steering" to disabled.

I would give 1) a good try first though Smiley Happy

Post back how you get on.

Re: Wholehome firmware v1.02.06 build 11

@midget69  in my experience, there is no need to change any of these. Only exception is steering "IF" your system is not stable, ie discs start disconnecting. My post above shows how to switch off all steering.
