Those numbers do not take you to a "real" person, just the standard push 1 for this and push 2 for that with no option to speak to a real person.
The live chat thing worked and armed with info from that I was able to then navigate the automatic self service system. I then opted to set up a direct debit and spoke to someone in India, whose standard of English was only just better than my cat's.
The automtic system might save BT's time, but is is a complete waste of mine - 3 hours taken up to do something that shouldn't have taken more than 10 minutes.
This is just not good enough. I will be transferring my business to a company who values my time.
