Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

if you used the test socket when you tried the quiet line test and heard the noisy line then you need to report a phone fault to 151 with no mention of broadband.  get rid of noise and help improve your connection.

btspeedtester is inconsistent at present - works and then doesn't and then gives wrong download speeds

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

we don't have a test socket here, just some old BT box on the wall put there by the engineer last time he came. is it worth asking BT to get that upgraded? after all they put it there 🙂

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

if there is a problem with noise on your line then if you get an engineer callout he may well replace the old master if it is causing the noise problem.

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

you will get charged for that unless the socket is faulty at the openreach side of the connection just report the line fault then you may get it replaced then

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

Quick update, rang BT again, they seem to think that there was a fault at the local exchange which is now fixed. Since they "fixed" the problem the router has remained on and connected and the speed has neither gone up nor has it stabilised, the only thing that has improved is the ping which has reduced from anywhere around 150 up to and over 1000.

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

Speedtester didnt work at all for me. Just said cannot run a speedtest for your broadband connection. Contact your broadband supplier.

Last worked for me last night and the IP profile was 6mbps if memory serves

Re: Really slow broadband all of a sudden.

6mb profile wouls be about right for your connection speed.  btspeedtester is a waste of time just now.  hope that's because of update due tomorrow
