Recent contacts disappeared

Go to solution

Hi,

I've just been changed to the (very slow and poor) new email format. However, when I compose a new email, it only seems to remember very old contacts - I have to type in recent ones individually. Am I missing something here?

Thanks

I am having exactly the same problem since BT "upgraded"  (joke! ) my classic account to the new extremely poor new version this week. Do you have a solution you could share?

When your BTYahoo email account was migrated to the "new" BTMail system only email contacts that were saved as contacts were migrated. If you did not add your email contacts in the "Contacts" folder and only had them in your  "auto complete"  section they could not be migrated and as such are no longer available.

Why on earth was I not warned of this before the migration took place?

Probably because it would have been thought that people would store their contacts in the correct place and it would not occur to BT that some people never actually set up their contacts correctly and only relied on them being in the "auto complete" section.

I have never consciously stored any contacts. This seems to have happened automatically until a little while ago, so it never occurred to me that I needed to do anything.

You are not alone with your thinking.

All your contacts should have been set up and stored in your contacts folder. This folder is manageable and can be "exported" so that you can take your contacts with you if you were to move provider or if you wanted to add your contacts to another device.

Only having them in the "auto complete" folder means that they are only stored in a temporary cache folder of the email service and it does not permanently store all the details of the contact that you can add and store in the contacts folder.

If you still have emails from your "lost" contacts you can add them to the main contacts folder by opening the email then going to the senders email address and you will see a small + to the right it. Click on that and you will be given the option to add or add to existing. If you click add it will open the contacts box and you can then fill in the fields that you want then click "save".
