He did nothing aside from contacting them mate, he says they told him they will modify his profile, that is probably what did it.
The way BT is prioritising the traffic behind the scenes.
I should have said this earlier, I recently sent a complaint to the CEO regarding this issue with screen shots of numerous posts on the forums, I initially wanted to cancel my contract free of charge which they granted me, however I recieved a phone call from executive level complaints team that they where willing to fix this issue and give me a massive discount on my monthly payments so I thought what the heck worth a shot (I'm no longer in a contract with them and can still cancel whenever).
After asking what it is that they are going to try Dean informed me that it was a problem with prioritisation and that consumers are on a different path than let's say businesses and that our packets are getting stuck behind a queue, and he was going to stick me on the highest priority that they offer usually restricted to businesses, he told me to reset my router at midnight and that the changes would be applied.
Whatever he did worked, I no longer get any ping spikes or packet loss, and my sync speed actually increased up to 78Mbs where it was originally 70.
This further leads me to believe that all these issues are down to BT prioritisation and that consumers like us are getting shafted in terms of packet transfer time when our network is being stressed (streaming).
I have the phone calls recorded (so they couldn't stick me back into a contract) and I can upload ping plotters before and after the change.
yea we have all suspected for a while they have been using some sort of network priority for video streaming / vod traffic that they have been testing and introducing across the network. Should just sell a gaming package like before or offer a sign up page on the forums.
While that's fantastic news it means we can only easily get this resolved by writing to the CEO.
This is madness
Would you have a copy of the original email and the CEO’s email address so we can all send him our complaints? I’m eager to see if they will switch all of us on this priority list haha
I wont be able to explicitly post it on here because I have been silenced by the powers that be for chastising a member of their team that once told us all it was our fault and that if we dont want lag nobody else should be using the network, however if you want to drop me a private message I will send everything over sure.
You know this is a big suspicion when my connection was fixed, is they just moved me onto their business network just to get rid of me and shut me up 🙂 I bet their business connection certainly won't be tuned for delivering any TV packages. I 100% definitely saw my route change on the evening they closed my complaint, but of course they won't want to bog down their business network so I bet there's no way they're going to advertise this as a fix.
I don't think looking at the speedtest .net graphs is proving much, I see the same slow ramp up at work and that's via a 200Mbit Virgin connection, I bet that's either on the test server side or it's your PC congestion provider setup.
Either way speed is not the issue, it's latency and that's what you care about if you want to have a quality gaming session.
@JoshThomas@dubstepzombie
Any chance either of you two could PM me what you did to solve your problem?
Also wondering if you post your results to the IP below so I can compare your results?

Were you seeing results like this before?
Where your Ping just randomly spikes on the BT Network?
For those Admins/Mods on here wondering why this is important.
A game sends a packet at least every 0.2 seconds, 5 packets a second.
As you can see from the above, at Hop 2, where my packet hits the BT Network..........
Best Ping - 9ms
Worst Ping - 127ms
Ping Average - 28ms
1 second = Min 5 packets
9+9+9+9+127 = 32.6ms
So i'm getting a lag spike, on average, just over every 1 second.....
This is on a idle connection.
How is this usable?
