What console do you play fifa on? Whats your psn/gt?

Re: Recent online gaming ping spikes when streaming Netflix

Indeed ping plotter shows the potential pings to the various hops but it can also be misleading seeing as there's no guarantee a ping to router / node will respond reliably as per a few posts ago showing packet loss for the first hop. Once you've proved the spikes are coming from BT you only need to be concerned with the end point result because that's the result that'll in effect happen when online gaming. I'd probably work backwards as in prove the problem with a DOS ping, make sure there's a stable ping, start netflix or twitch, ping turns to trash, then use ping plotter to prove it's happening inside the BT network, but that's just me 🙂

Re: Gaming ping spikes all of a sudden when Netflix is being used.

I am also searching for an answer to this!

Gaming PC is connected to the router with RJ45 cable.

Whenever anyone else starts streaming via a laptop or a phone on Wifi the PC that is connected via cable becomes unusable for game playing.

Re: Gaming ping spikes all of a sudden when Netflix is being used.

BT just called me. Phone call lasted 2 mins tops. They said they (the network team) are still doing tests on my connection to determine what the problem is. And will call me back Wednesday. They said these things take take time but as I said previously I contacted them initially on the 9th September. I'll wait until Wednesday and then I'll tell them I'm leaving if nothing has changed.

Re: Gaming ping spikes all of a sudden when Netflix is being used.

From what I've read elsewhere it's not the connection that's an issue, it's the router giving priority to whatever is streaming above even a wired connection and there's no way to alter this on the BTRouter but on other routers it is configurable.

If this is the case can anyone recommend a good router where this is settable?

I can't speak for all routers but people have posted here with QoS routers that are still having the same issue.

Re: Gaming ping spikes all of a sudden when Netflix is being used.

QoS will help but it will not fix the issue, it just sugar coats it.

I have had the issues since Feb, the games I play, Quake and Arma were really bad and pretty much unplayable.

I purchased an RT-AC86U (flashed firmware with custom QoS script) and a separate modem in April and the games were playable again but I still high ping spikes. (just not as high)

This Month BT have made some changes to my connection and games are fully playable again with no ping spikes.

Re: Gaming ping spikes all of a sudden when Netflix is being used.

When you say no ping spikes do you mean it stays the same stable ping?

Or changes but just not huge spikes into the hundreds?

Mine has improved after they made changes especially on says Dota 2,the ping no longer goes into the hundreds and games don't stutter.

But I still have games where it rises and my ping is never completely stable, even pinging google
