My pings pretty much stay the same in my games, around 20 /25ms.
I do still get ping spikes but they max at about 80 (Compared to 300) and its every 20 minutes if that, it used to be several a minute.
This is with Netflix streaming while I am in game:
The below is with QOS off, still good but as you can see, the above screenshot with QOS on is better.
Does it still come up with packet loss to bt servers like this?
The only PL I get is hitting 31.55.185.177 but it doesn't seem to affect my gaming at all.
I don't always hit 31.55.185.177 either for some reason. (Need a more technical head to explain that)
Pinging a router is totally different to the router routing packets to your destination IP address, there's no guarantee a router or node will even respond to a ping. So in other words packet loss to the 31.x.x.x addresses is just their failure to respond to pings, it might mean something, it might be a clue that these routers are flat out for example, or it might mean responding to a ping is a really low priority and they decide to ignore pings most of the time by design.
Ping plotter will almost certainly be using a tracert type behaviour to find the IP addresses of the routers / nodes, so this can be confusing because ping plotter can find an IP address that's part of your route but won't necessarily be able to ping it or not reliably ping it.
I'd focus on the destination IP address - what pings you're seeing there and if there's any packet loss, that's the result that really matters, that will be in effect what your online game will be receiving / having to deal with.
Overall anyone looking at this problem need to check and observe a low / stable ping with no streaming and a useless ping / ping spikes when streaming. If there's ping spikes on a quiet network then you've got a different problem or this problem on top of a problem with your router or connection to the road side cabinet.
As per what's already been stated a new router won't solve this - if you've got this specific problem, at best it'll just reduce the severity of the problem from 'pointless even trying to game' to a 'rage quit level' of annoyance.
Hey guys, any more updates?
Are we closer to a fix or nah?
In terms of switching ISP 'leetline' gets my vote, they sent me some ping plotter traces and their core network is fast, they cater for gamers so that's where I'm heading in the new year.
Never heard of leetline tbh.. im just hoping BT can get back to me with a fix. Been with them for 7 years and for the majority of that time its been great.
Shame I haven't been contacted for a good few days now with any fix. Customer support is shocking for an issue causing so many problems.
Hi, how do i go about getting this fixed?
Had this issue for about a year now. As soon as i have netflix/youtube/twitch/prime on i get instant 3 second lag spikes on fifa where i cant do anything. It then works for 7 seconds, followed by another 3 second lag spike.
This is exactly what mine did too. I'd be at around 30 ping for about 7-9 seconds, then it'd jump up to around 140 and the lag spike would freeze the game for a second and make any competitive shooter pretty much unplayable. I made my own post about it and @PaddyB of the modding team was very helpful and managed to make some changes server-side that have pretty much fixed the issue. I still get occasional lag spikes at high traffic times, but they are nowhere near as bad as previously, only jumping up from 30 to around 50, and not making the game unplayable. Maybe try making your own thread and seeing if one of the mods can take on your case and help you out, I'm pretty sure we're all suffering from the same problem and it can likely be fixed in the same way. Best of luck, as I know how frustrating this is.
Hi @gharperr1992 welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. Sorry you are experiencing this problem. I've sent you a Private Message on how to contact the Mod team and we will be happy to help you with this.
Cheers
