That sounds good, perhaps leave the hub and see if the engineer finds a problem.
After speaking to Bt again and finding out the "fix" was still applied to my line and having it reapplied to be sure,I'm still getting huge ping spikes.
It no longer seems to work, the screenshot shows packet loss to bt server 31.55.185.177 Same few Bt servers that have always been the problem.
An update on the ‘fix’ rollout would be great. I know things are hectic right now but the issue is magnified with everyone staying at home together and trying to keep entertained.
I've been experiencing this same issue for weeks now, it coincided with my wife starting to watch a show regularly on amazon prime. The second she starts watching my ping skyrockets over 600ms, even up to 1500ms. Once she stops watching it calms down again to the low 20's. I've tested it multiple times using amazon prime on different devices and at different times and it has the same effect 90% of the time, only after 11pm does it have little effect.
BT support have sent 4 engineers who say everything's fine, their chat and twitter support have attempted to be helpful but with no success, and i've started getting the canned response of "we have no control over ping or latency issues". Frustratingly this manifests as a latency issue but it has a wider effect, just loading a webpage takes upwards of 5s.
Hi @tomjolly welcome to the forum and sorry that you have a problem with ping. Just a few things for you to check to ensure this is the same issue and also help with getting it resolved. Please can you ensure you have your gaming console connected with the BT Hub via Ethernet and ensuring you are not using any powerline adapters.
Would you also post ping plotter results showing your connection when just gaming and also one when gaming and streaming at the same time.
Cheers
John
@JohnC2 could you also help me? I posted my ping plotter a few pages back and didn’t get any help.
Many thanks
Hi @James3793 I'm really sorry this issue has returned. I'll message you in a moment so you can get your details over to us again and we'll be happy to take another look.
I’ll try and get that PingPlotter sorted ASAP. Is there a specific endpoint that you want me to test against?
probably worth mentioning when these ping spikes happy, it’s possible for me to use a VPN and see my ping times on ookla’s speedtest reduce and my connection stabilise. From what I understand it should have the opposite effect. Also when these spikes happen there’s always 5~% packet loss reported from the test
Hi @tomjolly, if you could do a Ping test to google or the BBC website without Netflix running and then another with it running and post the results that should be perfect.
Would a moderator please be able to contact me as I am having this same issue. What is frustrating is that I thought it was because our children were using up the bandwidth. I went and spent a lot of money on a new router hoping to sort it but to no avail. I then find threads on the netduma site linking to this thread. I was previously with talktalk and didn’t have this issue.
Has anyone else noticed FaceTime also seems to have an effect on this?
