Recent slow down.

Hey

I have been experiencing poor download speeds for the last couple of weeks. I usually get roughly 5-6 Mb connection which tends to drop to 3-4 Mb at peak times which i put down to congestion. However lately the only time im getting the full speed is early hours of the morning and by roughly 10am the speed is less than 700kbps which doesn't cut it when other family members are about. (2 desktops and 2 laptops - hard enough at the full 6mb)

I have experienced similar slow speeds last winter around Nov - Jan while on talktalk broadband and as a result changed provider to BT, im not sure if the change in climate at winter can have an effect on the service or if theres a fault somewhere im not aware of but the day-time speeds is just unbearable at the moment.

I jumped through all the hoops last time around to no avail so here's hoping i can get this sorted this time around.

The exchange is ESSTA - St Andrews area - Which as far as i can tell has no issues.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/TA

Re: Recent slow down.

Hey

The first stage of btspeedtester

Download speedachieved during the test was - 470 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :6240 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps

Cant seem to complete the "third test" it appears to time out.

Cheers

Re: Recent slow down.

have you been having connection problems or have you been resetting the hub to try and improve your connection?  your profile is low for you current speed as it should be 5500 with a down speed of 6240.

can you try and post another speedtester set run tomorrow morning/lunchtime to compare but I think you are going to need mod assistance to get your throughput/download speed back up to match your profile

Re: Recent slow down.

Just this evening rebooted the hub to see if i could get any improvement. The connection has been particularly bad today but throughput has been bad(less than 1mb) for about 2 weeks during the day atleast.

It appears to be like some sort of severe congestion in that during early morning all is well however the rest of the day the speed drops to a crawl.

I cant seem to get the "speedtest@speedtest_domain" username to run through the speedtester and when i try with the default "bthomehub@btbroadband.com" it completes the first speed test then it tells me to change the username for "third test" to the above - not sure whats wrong with it.

Will try the speedtester again tomorrow and post results.

Re: Recent slow down.

btspeedtester http://speedtester.bt.com  and not speedtester.  should only need to enter your phone number to run the test

Do you mean this bit?

Then changed the BB Username?

And you then get this?

If so, it's never bloomin' worked and the call centre staff don't know about the third test either!

Re: Recent slow down.

Just ran through it again -

Download speedachieved during the test was - 400 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :6240 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps

After that test there is an option to continue for additional test or exit.

I'm guess the test above was all you were looking for then ?

Cheers

Nick
