well, i took the option you suggested, licquorice and bought the AC1600 (Archer VR600) modem/router for BT phone lines. hope it hasn't offended you Keith_Beddoe and that i dont have any problem with my VPN service. i'll let you know when it arrives and is set up.
i assume that the set up used is as TP-Link says and that after logging in i change it to what has been told to me here,

or do i log in immediately with the bt info, ignoring what TP-link says in the quick set up guide about using:

That login is for the router itself, not broadband. Change that to something personal. The homehub@btbroadband.com is for the broadband and will need to be entered when prompted by the quick setup wizard.
