Recovery address

Go to solution

I have set up a recovery address using the BT template which did not have a field for a password? I am unable to log into this address without a password nor by using the password of the main (master) address. Help!

The recovery email address is meant to be one that you already have set up and is working so that if required, BT could send you information how to reset your email account etc if you can not access it.

Yes I understand and have already set the address up albeit with no password as there was no provision on BT's input template. Has anybody actually done this activity successfully? The recovery address is correctly shown on my account but cannot access it. BT very difficult contact at the moment.

Which BT template did you set the address up on? There won't be an option for a password, it just an alternative address for BT to contact you.

As @gg30340  says, it needs to be an existing email account, preferably a non-BT one.

You must use an active email address that you can send and receive from as your recovery email address. If you are using an active BT email address you must have set it up in your MyBT and you would have set a password when you set it up. If you did not set a password it would not be set up.

Is the email address that you used as your recovery email already a working email address that you can send and receive from?

If it is, you will not need to add its password in the recovery page. You do not access it from the recovery page.

If it is only required by BT to send you an email which you access in the event that your email address that you are adding it to as the recovery address can not be accessed.

If you have only added an email address to the "recovery email" and it is not an active email address that you can send and receive emails from, the recovery email box will happily accept it because it does not know that it is not an active email address.

Thanks for sorting me out. Amazing how the brain gets addled when stressed. Thankfully the scan result came back "all clear" about an hour ago.
