Renaming old folders with a now invalid character, under the latest release

Prior to the latest upgrade, I was able to create email folders beginning with the # character (it would place them at the top of the folder list). Since the upgrade the # character (along with some others) is not allowed. This has resulted in me not being able to access any emails contained in a folder containing a #. 

There is a folder rename facility but this does not work if the folder has, what is now, an invalid character.

As a result, I am currently unable to access many important emails. Has anybody else experienced this and is there a way to rename my folders containing a # ?

I don't have exact same problem, as I don use a #    But I put   the letter a then a space before the name of any folder I wanted to have at the top of my list   i.e.      a classes      Now all those folders starting with a space are at the bottom of the folder list, and you cannot control the order.  This new BT email is the worst ever, there are SO MANY problems with it.  I will list them all in another forum post.

Try renaming the "a" to a capital "A". My folders with a lower case character were under the upper case characters.

Yes, I have exactly this problem, having been upgraded today to the new service (with no warning and without being asked first).

Like you, I use the # symbol to ensure that specific folders (those containing emails to/from my personal contacts) appear at the top of the folder list.  I'm now caught in a true Catch-22, as I can no longer display or move the contents, and I can't rename the folder!  Many of my important emails have been rendered completely inaccessible.  This is a serious and unacceptable situation.

Will someone from the BT Mail team please arrange to fix this asap?  The simplest and quickest solution may be to allow the use of the currently invalid characters in the folder name.

I have today phoned BT and reported this problem. It's crazy that no warning was given before the 'upgrade' to let us know these folders would be unavailable unless renamed.

I'll report back on how BT manage to resolve this issue.

Just to impress upon BT how serious this is for me, I have over 1800 personal (and important) emails now totally inaccessible in folders whose names begin with a # symbol.

The irony is that the new system tells me how many emails reside in each of these folders but refuses outright to allow any sort of access!  Whatever I try to do, I get a message box saying "An unexpected error has occurred".

As a work around although I would suggest you do this anyway, have you tried setting up an email client/app using IMAP which should synchronise with the BT servers and set up your folder structure within the email client/app and should allow you access your email that way.

Thanks for the suggestion. 

It turns out I may just have been doing this anyway without realising it!  I use the Gmail app on my Nokia 2.2, and I can view all mail in the folders with a #-name.  I have to say that that surprised me, but then I'm working at the very fringes of my technical knowledge.
