Re: Renaming old folders with a now invalid character, under the latest release

Go to solution

Must admit it surprised me, obviously a web GUI thing rather than a server thing.

...obviously a web GUI thing rather than a server thing.

I think you'll need to explain that for dummies like me!

The restriction is with the webpage user interface rather than the BT mail server which is contrary to what I expected.

I am surprised at that. It is BT were are dealing with.

Still not resolved for me.

I'm afraid I don't really understand this "have you tried setting up an email client/app using IMAP which should synchronise with the BT servers and set up your folder structure within the email client/app and should allow you access your email that way. "

Download and install Mozilla Thunderbird (a mail client) that will sync with the BT mail server and download your folders complete with invalid characters. Remove the invalid characters in Thunderbird which will then replicate on the BT servers and allow you to view the now renamed folders in webmail.

However, you may decide after trying it, you prefer Thunderbird to webmail.

Ref #16:

I begin to understand.  Thanks.  I'll do as you suggest and try it out.

If, subsequently, I instal T'bird on both my desktops (in different countries, you'll recall), and then (say) send an email from T'bird on desktop A, are you saying that BT Mail and Desktop B will then sync with desktop A and all show the same email folders? If so, that seems like magic!  (I realise that, for desktop B, I'd have to actually be there to fire it up.)

And will Gmail on my Nokia also do the same thing?

If everything is configured as IMAP, then yes to all your questions. With IMAP, mail is stored on the server rather than each individual machine and thus is available everywhere.

Thanks for clarifying that.

...mail is stored on the server rather than each individual machine and thus is available everywhere.

Which is precisely why I ditched Windows Mail and move to webmail!

But if you had configured Windows mail as IMAP then it would have synced everywhere.
