Currently have the HH4 alongside the Openreach modem - can someone recommend a replacement router (Not HH5 or 6 - have heard of too many problems with these from friends) that will function with the Openreach modem.
Mainly looking for improved performance with X Box Live so as to easily enable port forwarding.
Just about any third party router will fit the bill, with improved UPnP and port forwarding. Asus, Billion, DrayTek, TP-Link.
TP-Link have various models that would suit. Depends on what you want to spend. The TP-Link VR600 seems quite popular, probably best to go for the 'V2' model if this suits you, as this is the newest variation and most likely to properly support IPv6 for your gaming.
If you want to keep the Openreach modem, you only need a router with a WAN port, no need for an all in one modem/router.
Had a look at the TP Link VR600 and it seems to fit the bill.
- So basically all I would need to get it up and running is to connect the ethernet cable from the white Openreach modem to the socket on the back marked 'LAN4/WAN' and that's it? (as well as having to configure it of course)
That's it, as you say. You will have the option of using the built in modem if the Openreach Modem fails at a later date. The TP-Link seems to have a decent setup wizard but if you need to manually set things you need:-
User name - bthomehub@btbroadband.com
Password - bt
PPPoE
you may need the VLAN ID 101 unlikely this is needed but just in case.
