Router Wireless Password

Go to solution

How many different wireless passwords do BT use by default on their Hub/Routers?

BT help pages read 'We don't recommend changing the password because the one we give you is already very secure. '

However, a cyber security chap has told me there are just 350 network passwords used on BT Hubs, and it should be changed as a matter of urgency?

Comments anyone

If you are not happy using the default password just change it, simples!!  I have no idea where your 'cyber security chap' gets his information from but there are 36^10 combinations of 26 letters and 10 numbers in a 10 digit password, slightkly more than 350!!!!

Using the ten numbers, 0 to 9 and 26 letters of the alphabet you can have 36,561,584,40,062,976 different combinations in a ten digit password.

I am able to do maths myself, but that was not the question was it?

As my security chap is a professional and has worked for some rather large businesses in the UK I would imagine his information has some merit?

I would suggest that you go back and ask your professional security chap where he got his information and once he has proved what he has said then you can decide if it has any merit.

If you are concerned even though I think your 'security chap' is wrong then just change the password to something which is easier for you to remember

@Christine. If he is that much of an expert maybe he should change the password as soon as possible. I

Re: Router Wireless Password

The dark web apparently has a list of all BT router wireless passwords

Why should I doubt his word, he is after all a professional unlike most here who just seem to post and dismiss things rather than enter into proper discussion?

Presumably he has shown you the list or can provide you with a link to the list of passwords?

That is a rather sweeping uninformed assumtion about posters credentials on this forum!

If you are convinced he is correct and every body else is wrong you should for your own piece of mind change your wireless password which is very easy to do as per this link.
