The first time I tried that earlier it was red, this time it is green. I didn't get a screen shot the first time as I was clicking about.

Re: Rural-ish broadband worse than dial up

Your diwnload speed is very low for your connection speed but this could be caused by a low profile due to connection problems but without the diagnostic test results i cannot be sure.  It is the only test that shows the profile

you are on adslmax and you upstream speed and upload speed appear correct

Profile looks ok from test but download speed very low. Are there any problems shown here for your exchange as it looks like congestion http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php

So you think its congestion? This isn't just today, and its not just one time of the day (although it is /slighty/ better at midnight), but its just as usuable from 9am to midnight.

sksamuel,

Have you tried a speedtest with a Wired Ethernet connection to see if it's a WiFi issue?

Can you post the router 2lines of stats now you are in the test socket. If btspeedtester was not done wired then can you run wired as i previously asked and as asked by jac_95

Re: Rural-ish broadband worse than dial up

No to be honest I haven't but I have tried a wi-fi repeater, I'm on 5 bars signal, and I've used a wifi analyzer to check the channels. We also get the same slowness on the other pcs. I have ordered a network cable and I'll test it with that tomorrow.

Also the other people in the village all said the internet is rubbish, although I assumed they meant no netflix or online games. It just took 30 seconds for the bbc news home page to load - it takes under 1 second on a `normal` connection. Are we just too far from the exchange?

To re-iterate I'm happy with the download speed when it works. All I want to do is browse webpages effectively, I don't care about streaming video etc.

I hope BT Infinity wil change this (our exchange says CS June 2014), although I wonder if this village won't be eligable.

Re: Rural-ish broadband worse than dial up

You have a 5mb connection and correct profile so should stream ok.  Wholesale won't help unless btspeedtester shows a priblem run with a cable not wireless

enter your phone number here. https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

I've moved my computer closer to the router so I can use the short cable I already have.
