SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

Hi, I live a long way from the exchange but my line has previously connected at around 2Mbps but speed has been falling over the last few months and ended up only connecting at 0.5Mbps or less. I had been using an ASUS router connected to an extension socket. This setup often lost connection (I think primarilly down to the router) and this resulted in the SNR margin being increased to around 16dB - hence the low connection speed.

I have now got a new Home Hub 4 and this is connected directly to the master socket. This was received and plugged in yesterday. When it established connection it synced at 544kbps with a downstream SNR ratio of 15.10dB. I have not rebooted the router since connecting it up and it has not dropped a connection.

Now I have the new connection setup I think I need to request an SNR reset and go through the 10 days settling period as if this were a new line so I can get a decent connection speed again. Does anyone know how I can get this organised?

Thanks,

Nick

Re: SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

Hi Nick,

Welcome to the BT Care forums. To request a line reset you will need to wait for one of the mod's to pick this up or one of the user's with "CL" next to their name to notify a mod about this.

Hope this helps.

Re: SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

The mods are taking about 5-6 days to respond to messages sent to them (excluding weekends), so you would be better off just waiting a bit longer and let the DLM reduce your noise margin over time. If you were to contact the mods, they may end up replying after DLM has done what it's intended to do.

Re: SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

you need to post your stats from your hub - troubleshooting then helpdesk.

before the mods will help with noise margin reset you need to show a stable internet conenction for 3+ days otherwise a manual reset will be wasted if your conenction is not stable.  if your connection continues to drop after reset then DLM will just put you back to square one and reset would have been pointless

I can see some login stuff from BT here but not sure if that's what caused the connection to re-set. Any ideas?

If I leave everything alone do you think my connection speed will automatically improve over time?

Thanks for your help,

Nick

Re: SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

if you leave the conenction conencted to test socket with new filter then your noise margin should reduce and speed increase over time provided connection remains stable.  if it keeps dropping then you need to find the cause as your conenction nspeed will not improve without a stable conenction

if you can get 3+ days connection time then repost your stats and we can see if mods will help you and reset your mnoise margin

Re: SNR Margin Reset - Line Training Request

Hi Guys,

Router connection now seems very stable. Since I connected the New Home Hub direct to the Master Socket last week the connection has dropped twice - Once when the router rebooted to do a firmware update and once when I did a manual reset to try and get a faster sync speed (it made no difference). Connction has run for over 4 days (since I did the manual reset). Sync speed is only 512kpbs and SNR margin is 15.2 dB.

Is it possible to get the mods to initiate an SNR reset or will my line automatically increase speed and, if so when?

Thanks.
