SNR Margin variations

Go to solution

My SNR Margin varies on a day to day basis from 11db down to 8db, it's usually lower when weather is wet.

As it goes down to 8db I assume that my BRAS is set to 6db and I am getting 2 to 5db of noise and that this will explain why I get resynchronisations at roughly 10 day intervals ?

However BT quiet line is silent, so Openreach are not going to look at this for me.

Am I making the right assumptions ?

Re: SNR Margin variations

noise margins do fluctuate over 24hrs - higher in mid morning to late afternoon and then dropping to low point probably about 11pm and then starting to increase again back to high at midday and then cycle starts again.  this is due to line noise/interference as the lines get busy particularly after dinner time when people start using the phone lines.

can you post your adsl stats as noise margin is maybe higher then normal due to line problems and errors report may show that.

are you connected to the master of test socket?

Re: SNR Margin variations

Go to solution

from what you have posted you are on adslmax up to 8mb and have a 6mb connection with noise margin of 8.5db.  I couldn't see the connection time.

if you have a connection time of 3+ days then I would contact the mods and get noise marghin reset to 6 which will give you an increase in speed

can you run btspeedtester and post the results please

Re: SNR Margin variations

Go to solution

Ironic, but between 5 and 6am this morning the system resynchronised itself!

I'm now connected at 5312000 / 448000, SNRM is now 13.5 db.

Am I right in suspecting noise or other interference is the likely cause?

As I say above quiet line test is silent.

Line is directly to master socket, there's no internal wiring, (telephone is DECT on the only filter).

Frustrating, as I cannot see Openreach accepting a fault.

Re: SNR Margin variations

yes you have a noise issue try connecting to the test socket to eliminate any internal problems

Re: SNR Margin variations

Makes no difference.
There's no internal wires from the master socket.
