Re: Setting up a Windows 10 e-mail account to acess a BT sub-account e-mail address

I just set up an IMAP account using the W10 email app. I set it up manually and it works OK.

I could not see the ports that are being used and I would also suggest that you use Outlook or another email client such as Thunderbird.

Yes this e-mail address is one of several hung under my own main BT e-mail account.

It has worked fine on previous laptop, which was running full MS Office Outlook - which we have NOT loaded to new laptop, as not needed any more

Does this change things re passwords?

Make sure you enter your full email address in the Username field.. The account name is effectively what you want to call it if you've got more than one address, like "Andy's BTinternet", or "Andy's Gmail". It's not used as an email address.

I work on the principle that all mail clients call different things by different names, if every field is completed using the email address it shouldn't matter whether it is needed as an email address or just a text string.

Thanks again Licquorice,

I am having to put this to one side over the weekend - just picked up visitors from the airport and several things planned to keep us amused.

Will come back to this when they head off on Monday - and see if I can find the MS Office 2010 discs / Product key.

Thanks again for all your help - Have a good weekend

Regards

John

Licquorice / Andy N

Just a note to close this problem out.

Clear of visitors and after a long day working on this I am glad to be able to report a SUCCESS !!!!!

Picking up on your suggestion Licquorice that a re-load of the Office suite might help, and a hour or so wading through a few boxes from our house move _ did finally uncover the discs from initial installation of Office Pro 2010 - with the product key.

Initial attempt rejected the key, but with assistance from very helpful techie on the MS support line, and a re-verification of the product key they managed the download remotely, and advised code to enable me to proceed through installation and set up of Office 2010.

Took some time to download through our somewhat slow broadband speed (but that's another consequence of the move) and some messing about with BT passwords and settings I finally got things established late afternoon, and completed a few e-mails etc between accounts within the family.

Somewhat strangely though the download gave me the Office 2010 Pro elements I expected - BUT downloaded Outlook 2019 - which looks a little slicker that the older edition. No complaints with that.

This new laptop is mainly for the wife's use - thus mail and browsing and a bit of Word processing and sorting photos, and also a back-up of anything I need to take with me if off on a research trip.

Well pleased with the outcome and sincerely grateful for all the assistance and pointers you provided.

Many thanks

John
