Hi there,
For a few years, we have used an ASUS DSL-AC68U router to connect to our BT Fibre broadband? However, a couple of days ago, we suddenly lost our broadband connection. However, BT then sent us a new Smart Hub 2, which we then connected and it now works.
However, we would still like to use the ASUS router so is there any information (which could also be a screenshot) of the settings you need to setup BT Fibre broadband on a ASUS DSL-AC68U router?
Or is there a way to access the Smart Hub settings so we can copy them across? We tried accessing the smart hub manager but it doesn't seem to give very much configuration information at all.
Thanks!
Jonathan
I don't understand the question, if the ASUS was working before, nothing has changed just plug it in it will just work.
In any case, if you run the auto setup wizard, the only settings you need are the PPPoE username and password which are bthomehub@btbroadband.com and BT.
That's what we thought but since Thursday the ADSL connection no longer seems to work which has left us very confused.
These are my settings. Is there anything obviously wrong?
All looks ok, have you considered the ASUS may have gone faulty hence the loss of broadband in the first place.
Yes that was one thought. We did also try testing it with a BT Home Hub 3 which also didn't work but that was quite old and may have had some configuration changes.
I think for now we will try a reset on the router and see what that does.
This is the message we get (even though the network cable is plugged in). Note that I have cleared the password fields.
Is there a way we can test whether the port itself still works?
Try using the DSL lead that you are using for the hub in case it is the lead that is faulty. Failing that, all you can do is try a factory reset and set it up again.
The hub3 wouldn't work with fibre broadband.
Ah that explains a lot!
Yeah we now think the Asus router is just broken.
Thanks so much for your help.
It would seem you've got a very old firmware version installed maybe a good idea to update that first , then do a factory reset like this:-
1. Turn the router off.
2. Press and hold the "WPS" button and turn the router on.
3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button).
4. Release the WPS button after the power LED light starts flashing.
5. Power light stops flashing and the router will automatically reboot.
The firmware version I'd use is 3.0.0.4.384_81981 as versions after this do auto updates which I think is not desirable.
I should have said your settings look exactly the same as mine so are fine on that page.
I had the same setup with Asus DSL-AC68U router. But had a Smart hub 2 delivered when I upgraded.
I found the Asus 10mb slower than the Smart Hub 2, so setup the Asus in Dual WAN mode, as Ethernet WAN port 1, in internet connection set it to Automatic IP (so it gets all its info from the SH2).
Connected this to the SH2. Then I set the SH2 with a DMZ to the ASUS IP address. Turned off the WiFi and Firewall (use Asus Firewall).
Now I use the functionality of the Asus (VPN, DHCP, DNS and Wireless) without the BT restrictions.
