Setup of Nighthawk XR500

Hi guys,

Got to the point where pulling hair out is the next step...

I have just switched to BT GFast 300/50.

Previously from my provider at base I have a XR500 Gaming router, I have the Home Hub 2 Installed a few weeks ago.

I also have a GFast Openreach Modem (not currently in use). Model No. MT992

How do I setup the XR500 to work... PS dumb it down for me.

I have tried:

Wifi off on the BT Hub and Put the XR500 on the DMZ which passed through but I couldn't edit settings on the XR500 due to it saying I wasn't connected so the purpose of the router would be useless (Acted basically as a ethernet extender).

I have tried Wifi off and DHCP off which doesn't work (logically this makes sense but i tried it twice for good measure...)

I have tried the openreach modem to the XR500 but no luck (maybe due to not knowing the correct settings to get it going IDK)

I am totally at a stand still... Also what are the best router setting for Gaming? Specifically Call of Duty which is still on the old NAT servers. I was told by an openreach engineer that BT had a Gaming Profile they can apply online which changes the delivery of data or maybe setting the memory of that information is hazey.

THANKYOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

You don't need the hub. Connect the Netgear to the modem. On the Netgear, enter the PPPoE credentials of username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT. Set vlan ID to 101

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

The OpenReach modem has the LAN, DSL and power lights green but the internet light isn’t lit, is there a reason for this?

Also just trying to find where to put a vlan setting. If known or if this is known as something else I am definitely a novice in this area.

Are you sure the modem is in working order and configured for G.Fast?

You probably don't need to, it will be set in the modem.

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

I have found where the VLAN ID is and put 101 in and put the settings as PPPoE and those login details stated above, the OpenReach modem is a GFast modem as it states it on it and OpenReach used it when I had Sky GFast to try improve the connection to my PC.

But still no internet for some reason.

is there a service name required?(for the pppoe login) if so do you know this? And the connection type I put as always but the options are Always On, Dial on Demand and Manually Connect.

Do you know which one I’m supposed to select.

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

The PPPoE credentials are as I posted previously, connection type is 'always on'.

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

I have replicated what you’ve said credentials wise and VLAN is there anything else that needs doing? I still haven’t got a light on the modem, is there a reason why the modem might not be lighting up for internet. Also no internet

Re: Setup of Nighthawk XR500

That's why I asked if it the modem is known to be Ok.

I don't think it is the case, but maybe the modem is configured differently for Sky rather than BT but it will be locked so you will be unable to make any changes if it is.
