Sharing package with next door neighbour

We live next door to my elderly father . We have a BT package, and he is paying over GBP70 per month for a virgin package.  Our BT package is out of contract.

Both packages include landline phone, broadband, and basic TV.  My father's needs for TV are very basic (basically freeview) and he does not use the internet, although it would be handy to have there.  He also rarely if ever uses the landline phone.   All his calls are transferred to my mobile as he gets constant scamming calls (and he has dementia).

I would like to:

Drop one of the packages

Swap his virgin landline number to me (as he has had it for 45 years) .

Ideally give him a mobile phone to use.

Can you advise the best package/ way to proceed ? I

Many thanks

Re: Sharing package with next door neighbour

It does seem as if you can completely remove one service and just have one in your house. He should be able to access your WiFi.

Make a list of exactly what you need and see who will give you the best deal including the mobile.

Re: Sharing package with next door neighbour

Is your father's phone number one originally issued by virgin  or BT and transferred to virgin or something else.  It could be a problem porting a original virgin number to BT  as different systems

Re: Sharing package with next door neighbour

The ‘cable’ industry kicked off in earnest in the 90’s , so the ‘oldest’ numbers to be issued to a cable company ( that eventually became VM ) are unlikely to be 45 years old, so chances are the number ( if it were issued 45 years ago ) was originally BT issued , and ported to ‘cable’ , so getting BT to offer it should be possible , it would just need the cable company to return it to BT once the cable service was ceased.

Getting the number to move ‘next door’ may be tricky as you would need it to look like it was your father moving address, if you simply said you wanted his number moved to your address in your name , that may prove difficult , and if you wanted to use BT not VM , then before the house move, you would need your father to migrate at the existing address from VM to BT, then organise the house move.

Re: Sharing package with next door neighbour

Thanks very much. It's an old number originally 7 digits before 0208 was put on front.  Certainly pre virgin. Would BT take it back easily enough?
