Slow connection and capped at 20meg

Hello.

Can anyone assist, for the last few months i have been having issues with slow speeds and drop outs, tech support as always "there is nothing wrong with your broadband"

Really, then why did i used to get around 23meg (still rubbish for supposed top wack infinity FTTC) and now i get just over 17, i have tons of screens hots for speed tests for 30+ but my hub never gives me this, when it was installed the eng test rig on the end of my line was showing steady 27+, never had it, and now every time i do a reboot of the hub it settles straight back to 20 meg D/L and 1.18 U/L EXACTLY every single time.

Losing the plot here.

The tester an Engineers uses tests your Sync Speed between th DSLAM and the Modem (the one built into his tester obviously).

It doesn't test the Throughput, Openreach rarely do that as Throughputs Speeds have little if not nothing to do with them.

first of all stop restarting your hub that just causes more problems than it solves
second your connection is within the range quoted on the Wholesale checker

You're bang in the middle of the expected ranfe of speeds.

Your line is performing exactly as it should.

No my connection is just over 17 in real terms and this is not an acceptable connection for so called super fast broad band, i know that my connection has dropped as i used to get much faster speeds, the cabling in the house is brand new direct from a MK 3 BT box to the incoming line from the outside and all the cabling is underground from the house to the exchange which is exactly 1 Km away.

How do you explain this

I suspect a large amount of crosstalk has had a detrimental affect on your connection.

Your distance from your exchange does not apply to FTTC it is your distance from your local street cabinet

The only cabinet we have in the entire village is exactly opposite the exchange building at the very leading edge of the village so 1km from my house, easier to put it next to the exchange rather than a central location in the village, such is the so called rural investment in fibre broadband and before someone starts going on about running the fibre cables outwards from the exchange being a problem, they already run past my house as the cables ran in from the far end of the village through to the exchange. And the speed data info in the cabinet info has dropped since install last year, i think it may be time to send all the documentated test info to offcom and have them ask why BT feel the need to restrict customers speed and then lie about it.
