Slow upload after exchange upgrade

Dear all

I'm very grateful for any help.  I am connected to the Woolhampton exchange near Reading in Berkshire.  I live quite a long way from the exchange so am realistic about connection speeds.

Until recently I got just under 2meg download and about 400k or so upload, which wasn't great but was ok for work.

Recently (in late January, I think), the Woolhampton exchange was upgraded to 21CN networks (?). Since about this time my upload speed has collapsed and I now have a profile of 128k but am not even getting this much.

I am nervous about asking BT to investigate for fear they will slow down my download speed - I depend on the internet to send and receive a lot of large documents for work.  However the upload speed is now so slow that it takes several minutes to send an email with an attachment.  I really dont' want the download speed slowed any more!

My stats from the BT speedtester are here:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1892 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.

 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2432 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 128 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps

My stats from my router are here

Thank you very much for your help

Best wishes

Edward

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

It does not look as though your line has been upgraded, your exchange may have been upgraded but your line probably won't be done for another few months unless you re-contract.  You can check what speed you should be able to get here http://bit.ly/yJGwdX.  Regardless the upload speed is still far below what it should be.

What type of master socket are you using?

and also what router are you using?

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

Thank you very much for replying.  I have an openreach NTE5 socket. It was installed in the house (new connection as new house) in May 2010 and we had a year an half of a higher speed profile than this.  The router is a Netgear DGN2000 - interestingly at about the time the connection slowed I could get no wired connection from the router, although WIFI was fine.  I restarted it and the wired connection has recovered.  Thank you, Edward

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

If you unscrew the lower half of the front of the master socket and connect to the test socket can you then post what your circuit sync is?

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

Here are the latest speedtester results

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1855 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2432 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 128 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps

And here are my router stats

ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstream
Connection Speed2432 kbps128 kbps

Where do I find the circuit sync - the router is conntected by a 30 cm wire into the master socket (and then split ADSL and voice and the voice does three lines via a patch panel).

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

SOrry, the circuit sync is the same as posting your adsl stats :$. So you do have the Service Specific Faceplate, which is the main socket you connect to? If you unscrew this then you should be able to connect to the test socket at the back of this, you will however require a micro filter. My bench is to seem you have something like a HR fault purely from experience where the upstream is that low.

If you go too this link and just type in your postcode http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker it should tell you how far you are from the exchange, can you please let me know how far you are?

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

I couldn't get the stat from Samknows but to drive (it's wiggly back country lanes) to the exchange is about 4 miles.

I'll plug into the test socket in an hour or so when I get the chance.

Thanks again

Re: Slow upload after exchange upgrade

To echo Gouldy....

You need to test into the test socket. The speeds haven't changed from your first test to the second. If when you've removed the front plate and connected to the test socket the speeds are still the same then it looks like an engineer visit will be needed.

I have now plugged into the test socket and got 448 upload again
