Slow upload speed and random disconnects

Hello everyone,

I've joined the forum as I've had issues with my internet recently and I seem to be going around in circles with the BT call centres.

For about 2 weeks now, my upload speeds have been really slow (0.38mb max) and my HH has been losing connection a few times a day.  It generally reconnects after a minute or so.  I first noticed it whilst online gaming, having bad lag being frequently disconnected from matches.  I subsequently noticed that skype video calls were impossible as the quality and constant break up of the call were too frustrating.

I dont often use my landline, so when I did to contact BT there was a crackle on the line and they suggested this was the reason behind my slow upload and it was probably being caused by a faulty microfilter.  A new microfilter replaced the old one, same problem.  I carried out the usual procedure of connecting the HH to the master socket but the problem persisted.  So they then suggested that the HH was the problem.

The new HH has pretty much (as far as I can tell) eliminated the crackle on the line but the slow upload speeds persist as well as the disconnects.  I have now put the new HH on the master socket again to see if the disconnects continue.  So far I've had 10hrs without a disconnect but my upload speed still won't go above 0.38mb which is really slow considering I my down is between 10-16mb.

Any ideas on whats causing the slow uploads?

BT have booked an engineer to come out in the new year because of the previous reported crackle but as the crackle has all but disappeared I'm slightly reluctanct as I know BT will charge me if they come over and don't find the crackle.

Do my line stats below shed any light on what might be causing the slow uploads?

Apologies for the really long post.

Robert

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

Forgot to mention that I live approximately 500 metres from the exchange.

Thanks

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

is the crackle there when you do quiet line test from test socket?  have you tried connecting the router to the test socket with the new filter as this will eliminate all your internal wiring and see if this improves your connection

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

Thanks for the reply.

I dont actually have a test socket as my master socket is one of the old 68mm ones. I have run a quiet line test at the master socket and I couldn't hear any crackling.

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

It looks like the wrong up speed profile may have been applied to the line The forum mods would be able to investigate it for you this is a link to them http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

They normally reply by email or phone directly to you within 3 working days maybe longer of course due to Christmas they will take personal ownership of your problem until resolved and will keep you informed of progress

They are a UK based BT specialist team who have a good record at getting problems solved

This is a customer to customer self help forum the only BT presence here are the forum moderator

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

Thanks for the link.  I've just checked my line stats again and my upload has increased but I was disconnected about 5 hrs ago.  Also, what sort of upload speed should I be averaging?  I've never realy paid much attention to my upload speed before as evrything worked but as my download is pretty high, even 0.92 upload seems quite low.

Re: Slow upload speed and random disconnects

your upload speed is fine for 21CN - 1000/1100 is what I normally get
