VDSL Range A  (clean): Downstream Range High 13.7; Low 7.7; Downstream Handback threshold 5.4; "Available"

This sounds like a home wiring issue, what does the master socket look like in the loft or is is too hard to get to?

from the dslchecker results your conenction speed is low but I really think that is due to using an extension socket rather than the master socket  I would seriously consider moving router to master socket  I would not get openreach if you want to change some wiring but you could get a local telecom engineer to make the few changes which I think will improve your conenction nearer estimated range 

the connection speed for adsl2 and FTTC are very similar and you may actually be better sticking with adsl2 and probably cheaper

Sound advice, thank you very much for all your help. I may get a couple of quotes on the domestic wiring.

Now obviously regretting having been tempted by Infinity, as appear to be worse off.  (Shouldn't really have been sold it, as not meeting the contract minimum speed.)

On the technical front, how easy will it be to get our line unbundled from the cabinet and restored to EOL whence it came - if that where it would have to go ? To move it from EOL to the Cab required "underground work", the engineer explained a fortnight ago.

But heaven knows what the BT ystem will need me to do to get the switch reversed! Wouldn't know where to start, and will almost certainly mean being charged twice for the service we had in the first place. More BT nightmares. grooooaaaan.

Thank you for asking. It looks like the most primitive kind of socket - no division in the middle, just one socket, and   - get this -  a vintage telecom T...   logo in the corner.

the socket is just a standard extension socket and master is upstairs when openreach line enters

was it standard broadband you had from BT before moving to fibre?  if so we can see if mods can help you with the move back as speeds no better than previous adsl

even if you move back I think you will get a speed nearer the dslchecker estimate if you moved/connected hub to the master socket

Yes, it was a standard broadband ( ADSL) contract.

Of course I now have a HH6 which I understand may not work with standard broadband, assuming we could get it back. I've already returned the old HH3 to BT

the hh6 does work with adsl  

so are you sure you want to move back to adsl?

Well, my objective was to get a reasonably fast, stable and reliable broadband service at reasonable  cost. Ideally meeting the minimum standard of 10Mbps though I realise that is looking ambitious.

If returning to ADSL gets closer to that objective, then yes! but would the implications be, though - and what might go wrong (such as losing service for three days again)? 

Can you advise me in that, wise and distinguished one?
