FTTC should give a more stable connection as it is only copper coonnection from cabinet to home whereas adsl is copper all the way from exchange so more potential for noise problems
I think your fibre connection would improve and be within estimated range if you were connected to the master socket whether that is connected to existing socket upstairs or you get telecom engineer to change wiring so your existing extension socket becomes the master and the upstairs either not in use or an extension socket
if still unhappy then you could move back to adsl and the master changes would benefit your adsl connection as well
