Many thanks everyone for all your helpful suggestions. The WiFi password has been changed and now I have the joy of updating all the individual wireless devices 🙂
Same problem here, and using the app sorted it by the time I got through the 151 queue. Very pleasant call handler said she would ensure this thread was escalated, as she hadn't come across this before.
Hi @froschling,
Thank you for posting back. I'm sorry the changing of the wireless password wasn't as smooth as it should have been. The hub team are aware of the bug with the special characters affecting the Smart Hub 2.
I'm happy to hear you've been able to change this through the My BT App.
Thanks
PaddyB
Just to be clear, I had this problem with no special characters in the password I was trying to set. But the default password does have special characters… Hmmm
Same problem here - No special characters in the wifi password and it although warns me about the strength (which I am accepting) does not seem to actually save the password like it is saying it does.
Infuriating as it would seem you HAVE to abide the strength rules for the actual update to go through.
Oh and it would seem that if you try and save with an invalid password (one that it says its saving for but it doesn't) this then breaks the UI on the smart hub.
REALLY REALLY POOR...
This is supposed to be your flagship router... worth I quote "£100" - and purchasable for £200 on the BT store!
I've now got to go around and re-set up all my wifi devices across my entire house because I cant change the settings to what I want to use.
licquorice mentioned, try a different browser. This should of been marked the answer.
Just had this same issue and came across this thread, the webpage doesn't like FireFox. I used Chrome and it worked fine.
I appreciate this is rather dated but If I am still having the issue now others may too, so thought I'd throw in another update 🙂
I have just installed my Smart Hub 2. I was completely unable to change the WiFi password as it would not accept any characters at all. One of the BT answers earlier in this community was to say that we do not need to change the password because it is already sufficiently complex that nothing we can do would improve matters. This clearly nonsense. My previous pass phrase was 28 characters long and included special characters; the default provided has only 14 characters, chosen from a smaller range.
Somewhere in BT, or the manufacturer of Smart Hub 2, is very probably a list of all the default WiFi passwords supplied with Smart Hub2. If all owners stick to the default then hacking, with the help of this list, would be an absolute doddle and take very little time, no cryptography required, no need for dictionary-based attacks, just run the list!
I had the same problem using Firefox 93.0 (64-bit). THis is VERY POOR BT.
I managed to get the Wifi password changed using Internet Explorer though.
FWIW I changed my wifi password (new Smart Hub 2) with no problem using Firefox - not sure which version - I have several. It's 32 characters including spaces - no special characters. I accepted the 'insecure' warning.
If there is really an issue with entering a password in Firefox we should track it down. It seems unlikely to me. Maybe a problem with password-storing security software, or addons such as ad-blockers? People often get different results with a different browser because they're configured differently.
