Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

Nothing particular that I changed I don’t think. Just give it a bit of time to settle down.

I test mine regularly and it stays at around 100mbps for a while and after plugging it in and out a few times it finally goes to 900+
wifi is always solid at around 500-600

Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

@BradCobbsdo you know what BT did to improve your speeds?

I've had several calls with BT but no improvement in speeds so far and they're now thinking of changing my vlan.

Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

if you are using two routers, one must have Dhcp server turned off .

So if you are using the the SH2 as the router that is plugged into the ont, that acts as the dhcp server. The asus must have dhcp turned off

And vice versa.

Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

@jonstattwrote:

@BradCobbsThe ThinkBroadband test will not give me any better results than yours. You must use a test server confirmed to give reliable tests at these speeds. MANY servers simply cannot. These speeds are bleeding edge and many networks simply don't support it.

fast.com does but can misbehave on browsers.

ookla does for certain servers ONLY and typically only reliable with the desktop app and not the browser. Many servers are capped to 500. For me, I find Jump Networks and Clouvider to provide 900 meg speeds.

The Fibre 900 product is a problem offering for many reasons. Some are BT and Openreach issues. Some of the upgrades have been done wrong. The app doesn't support the exchange<>hub direct test. There was an upload cap that some are still trying to resolve. The SH2 struggles with throughput when there are many connections. It appears to be underpowered and badly in need of an update both in terms of CPU and WiFi technology. Openreach do have congestion issues to resolve in some areas. Many consumers don't realise the WiFi limitations, and even with two AX routers ddoing point to point it is hard to max out 900 Megs (with fiddling I have achieved steady 800-850). The fact that many networks and sites around the world cant go that fast. And of course many users have not understood the need for Gigabit ethernet ports and how to enable this which is sometimes not the default on some PCs. Many USB Ethernet dongles do not do Gigabit.

It is not that the app doesn't support the exchange-hub test. it is impossible for it to do so.

Also some Gig ethernet adapters, may actually say they are Gb capable, but in practice aren't. In terms of testing Gigabit speed, test via downloading an iso rather than a speedtest website.

Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

Appreciate this thread was last updated back in June but I to want to ditch the SH2 bit of kit and use my Asus router now moved in to a new build last week. So reading the previous post I assume no one has got Own Router as primary and SH2 for phone only working and have this as secondary? So the only solution to phone and own router is to ditch BT voice and use another VOIP provider whereby their base will plug into an Asus router - if so any recommendations I see SIPGATE with a quick google

Re: Smart Hub 2 FTTP 900 - ASUS RT-AC88U set up.

Hi Brad,

Did you find the ASUS RT-AC88U was much different for gaming compared to the Smart Hub 2?

I used to use an ASUS RT-AC86U but moved to the Smart Hub 2 when I got FTTP. However, I'm finding I can hardly play CS-GO and PUBG anymore the lag is so bad I'm already dead before I see people shooting me. I used to be quite good.

I was considering moving back to the old router but it is a bit "old", so I wondered whether you have noticed any great improvements going to the AC88U ??

Regards,

Steve
