Can anyone shed any light on how to access a connected USB device from a Mac?
The USB feature is now working for me.
I previously found that I could connect wirelessly to the USB drive. But connecting from a PC which was connected to the BT Smart Hub by Ethernet to the USB port failed.
The Hub Manager originally showed the USB device as having 4 properties: Device name, Device icon, Connection Status, File system. The File system entry contains the UNC path to the USB device name, e.g. \\api\usb_name. However, sometimes the file system entry was not present. Always Windows 10 would fail to connect using this name or the IP address 192.168.1.254.
Some time before Christmas 2016 I discovered that the problem was fixed somehow and I could connect to the USB device from a Windows 10 pc using the UNC name. The Hub only showed 3 properties, there was no File system property so if I might not have known to use \\api\ would work. One downside was that all files that had filenames that included diacritics like umlauts and acute accents were all trashed. I started to replace these but gave up until now.
Today it looks like the USB is working. I recopied files with the diacritics to the USB drive and they can be read correctly in Windows via Ethernet and wireless devices. Also, the Hub Manager shows 4 properties for the USB device, the UNC path is back.
Firmware version: SG4B10002244
Firmware updated: 30-Dec-2016
How do I keep this version?
Hi there
Open a Finder window
Click Go - Connect To Server - type in SMB://192.168.1.254
Choose "guest" profile
The drive should be displayed
It will then show as a network drive in the finder window on the left
Hi there,
Just connected to the usb on the hub with my mac and found that the following line worked.
smb://api/MUSIC-USB
(MUSIC-USB is the name of my device)
Storage devices attached to BTSmarthuub 6 seem to be accesible at:
\\api\Shared_Disk
Typing this into your browser should bring it up.
You can open/read the files in your browser.
To open them in windows explorer and have easy access;
Windows 10
1. right-click start button
2. click run
3. type "\\api\Shared_Disk" (no parentheses)
4. click enter
This opens a windows explorer window with the navigation pane on the left.
You are in
To get in again more easily:
Under network (in the navigation pane) is api
5.click api
6. right-click shared_Disk
6. pin to start or quick access
Windows 7
1. click start
2. type "\\api\Shared_Disk" (no parentheses)
This opens a windows explorer window with the navigation pane on the left.

To get in again more easily:
3. right-click shared_Disk
5. click create shortcut
6. drag shortcut onto your desktop
Smarthub4 worked brilliantly for me with attached storage devices.
Struggled with Smarthub6 but think I've sorted it although I've only tried it on Windows 10 (utter [invasive] rubbish - do NOT 'upgrade' if you can help it!) and Windows 7.
Connect the drive to the hub via the USB port

I was having the same issues. It was recognised by the HH6 as being present but I had no access. It was a bit confusing because it worked fine on HH4 and HH5.
I have a MacBook and I also have FileBrowser on an iPhone. The latter will usually find anything but even that didn't work. I did a few physical reconnects on the hub but no luck.
I then plugged it into my Mac where it worked fine of course.
I then plugged it back into the HH6 and lo and behold FileBrowser found it straight away. Bizzare but true.
Mac was still not playing under the Search facility so I went to Finder, Go, Connect to Server and in the dialogue box I put in the usual 192.168.1.254. After putting in my Mac password (or just connect as guest) there it was! And an icon appeared on the Desktop. I ejected and reconnected the disc several times and it worked fine. I had to put my password in on the first two occasions but after that I was not asked again.
Hope this helps.
Just chiming in to say a few words...
We have the HH 6.0A, and a 1TB USB HDD formatted as NTFS connected via the HH's USB port. Normally it works okay if I map a network drive using \\192.168.1.254/Elements but every now and then it goes down and neither my laptop or any other device can access it. Rebooting the HH does not fix anything, not even switching it off at the plug and starting up from cold.
Once I remove the drive and map it again within Windows it will start working again for a while. Wierdly, this also fixes the problem with all other devices, including Android devices, without having to alter settings on any of them.
Really annoying to say the least, especially if it goes down during a transfer of files to or from the drive or while streaming from it to our Chromecast!
Dear BT
PLEASE CAN YOU JUST SORT THIS OUT?
Sincerely,
A Paying Customer.
