Hi there
I have a Smarthub 2 (G.Fast) and I turned off public wi-fi under my account on my hub. (BT Openzone)
I know these things can take a few hours to turn it off on my router, but after a few days it's still transmitting (see picture below)
There is the normal channel (the one i have named my router too) which i expect to be there.
There is one called *** (but no name) (Number 2 on the list)
BT Wi FI with Fon Which appears to be unlocked (number 3 on the list)
BT Wi-Fi X (number 4 on the list)
These i suspect should go off if you disable public Wi-Fi , but are still there, but what is more worrying is that if i disable Wireless on my router although my main channel goes down numbers 2,3,4 still transmit.
So disabling wireless even via the router settings really does not disable wireless.
I've confirmed that it is in fact my router these entries are on by turning the power off and on, they all disappear when power is off, and return when switched back on.
It can take up to 28 days for it to be switched off, as it relies on the hub being polled by the network management system.
Simply turning wifi off, does not affect these SSIDs, only your main SSID.
Ah thanks Keith, for some reason I was under the impression that it was 24 hours !!
I'll wait the full 28 days and then look again.
It can often be speeded up by opting in via MyBT, then waiting 24 hours, and then opting out again.
You can email the BT WiFi admin team using bt.wifi.admin@bt.com this address.
If you send them your serial number for your smart hub (copy and paste it to make sure you get all the symbols) and tell them the problem they can manually disable BT WiFi on your hub.
A question.
Once it is disabled does it remain so, even if you re-set the router (if it's the same router). I'm certain I had it disabled before but it keeps turning back on ?
If you factory reset the home hub, it will get enabled again, as that is the default.
Yes however I’ve noticed previously a firmware update seems to be able to enable it on the hub. Mine for example is disabled on my account l but my hub shows it as active but doesn’t broadcast BT WiFi at all.
if you factory reset the hub it will automatically re-enable the BTWIF/FON and you need to go through same again
It's still there (but i may wait the full 28 days)
Tried the opting in then out again but to no avail (I tried that on the 2nd)
The problem being that as I seem to be the only one transmitting a BT Wi_fi signal, workers and contractors on the street have started to congregate outside my house during their breaks bringing cursing and van fumes. Turning Wi-Fi off of course does not help as Bt-Wi-Fi continues to transmit, I've had to start just switching my router off during the day, but they still come up and try, utter a few swear words then walk away again.
There really should be a way for the end user to turn this curse off without having to turn the whole router off.
Maybe when my contract is up I should downgrade to superfast, that way i can use my own modem and choice of router.
