So who has cancelled their BT vision sub?

Go to solution

Just rang to enquire as my minimum term is almost up and was told that if I cancel the BT vision subscription (but will keep Infinity) then my Youview box will be useless as a PVR.  No pause, record, on demand etc.

This is not what I was told when I signed up.

It seems lots of people are being told that.

Is it something they have been told to say to avoid losing subscriptions, or where has this info come from?

Has anyone actually cancelled the vision sub yet?

Re: So who has cancelled their BT vision sub?

You will lose your BT player services and any BT  EXtra/Sports channels on the box. Any recordings (not really  relevant yet as we can't record the internet channels) from the BT channels would probably/possibily not be playable after you end your subscription.

Otherwise it will act as a normal Humax Youview box and you will be able to use as a Freeeview HD PVR and the available players when you connect to the internet. (Youview broadband usage would be countable against your provider usage limits).

Only grey area I can see is future box fimware/software updates.

As far as I'm aware the box will not function as a PVR only applies to the original BT Vision (old style Cardinal ?) systems and not to either the new look Vision or Youview boxes.

Cardinal was the trial name for the new look on the BTVision box.
I'm going to ask a Mod to clarify this as it is being raised far too often and as far as I am aware is totally wrong and the box will function as a PVR.

Same thing happens when you cancel your Sky subscription. The Sky box will receive Freesat, but you lose Sky+ PVR functionality. Why is this surprising with BT YouView?

Seamaster, you can't compare the two. The sales rep is wrong it will work.

Mine's up around the 5th November. I've already called to cancel my sub. Thanks for the heaviliy subsidised PVR though BT :-). Shame the YouView box is too good to go on a bonfire, so eBay will have to do.

I'm going back to Sky.

Edit: I was also told when I cancelled that the YV box would be unable to pause and record

Hi guys,

Thanks for the patience with this. Just to update you, we have checked and we can confirm that the box will continue to work as a PVR for Freeview channels.

Cheers

David

Thank you David. That is exactly what we knew to be the case. It is unfortunate that the wrong information is being given out.

So do all the on demand services still work (apart from the BT app?) such as iplayer, itvplayer etc?

ie, is the only thing I lose by cancelling is the BT app?
