Speed decrease

Following a firmware update just prior to Xmas on my smarthub and following several rebooting cycles by the hub and a couple of factory resets requested by BT call centre I have lost around 10mbps download and 5 upload ever since. Is this caused the interpretation of an unstable line and hence speed drop and if so will it recover over time? My speeds are still respectable so just curious really as the new firmware seems to have made the router much more prone to losing connection/wifi etc so just concerned that it will be a downward spiral !
