Speed drop on BT infinity 2

Prior to December 2017, I was on BT infinity 2 with speeds downloading of 67mbps and uploading of 15mbps. Due to the price increase, I cancelled my contract and took out a new line on BT infinity 2 again but my speeds dropped massively. I’m now on 52mbps with upload speeds of 12mbps.

I’ve tried calling up but since my minimum speed guarantee is 40mpbs I’m told that there is nothing to be done and that my speeds are better than average. I’m not really happy with that answer as none of my equipment changed; the only variable was changing my phone number which is on BT’s side.

Can anyone help me figure out what’s happened? I cannot deal with any more phone calls with BT who keep telling me the only way this can be solved is if I pay for an engineer and that I should be happy my speeds are what they are rather than being annoyed about a sudden and dramatic decrease.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Speed drop on BT infinity 2

can you post stats from your router

if hh6 then advanced settings then technical log information

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember delete number http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome

it may appear that only thing that changed was your phone number but I suspect that when you gave up your BT contract that your phone line was allocated to someone else and that you actual line has changed

Re: Speed drop on BT infinity 2

Thanks for your help. I have connected the homehub to provide the results hence the short uptime although these speed results are in line (slightly less) than what I was recieving with my Edgerouter X (which was also what was being used when I was getting 66mbps).

DSL checkerDSL checkerIs there any chance that I will get the faster speeds and lower ping that I had prior to the new line back? At present, it doesn't even seem worth me paying extra for infinity 2.

Re: Speed drop on BT infinity 2

your current connection speed is 58mb with attainable about 66mb and noise margin about normal 6db so you are within the estimated range from the dslchecker.  you may find that once your connection settles that G.INP will be enable by the DLM and that would reduce your noise margin to nearer 3db which would give a bit more conenction speed     this is an automatic process

you are not gaining a lot of down speed on infinity 2 but far better up speed so possibly better infinity 1 depending on cost saving

Re: Speed drop on BT infinity 2

How long does a settled connection take? My speeds have been consistent at 54mbps since November 2017. I used to get 66mbps before the change which is quite frustrating. What upload speeds would I be getting on BT inifinity 1?

Is this all down to me getting a new line in November?

Many thanks for your help!

Re: Speed drop on BT infinity 2

infinity 1 up speed is 10mb

yes as your original line/connection  was probably given to someone else/new customer

you are within your estimated speed range so can't see you getting much assistance
